World Soybean Research Conference 11 (WSRC11): 18-23 June 2023, Vienna, Austria

For one week from 18 to 23 June, Vienna will be the centre of science, economy and politics around global soya-related issues. Hundreds of scientists, feed and food producers, processors and soya experts from all over the world will meet for the first time in Europe for the 11th World Soybean Research Conference (WSRC11). Soybeans were first introduced to a world audience 150 years ago in the Japanese and Chinese pavilions at the World Exhibition in Vienna in 1873 – this was an important milestone on the way to one of the world’s most important crops.

The broad range of topics at the WSRC11 extends from the latest findings in science to market developments and the Protein Transition in Europe, as well as sustainability issues from climate protection to the current EU supply chain legislation process. The conference is organised by the WSRC Scientific Committee led by Prof. Johann Vollmann of the Austrian University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) and the organisation Donau Soja.

The international guests can expect an extensive 6-day program at the Vienna Austria Center. The major thematic blocks at the conference will be: Breeding, crop production and crop protection, the use of soya as food and feed, processing technologies, market development and policy topics. On 19 June, the conference participants are invited to a “Night of European Soy” with food producers at the World Museum. A gala evening hosted by the Mayor of Vienna in the Vienna City Hall and several excursions on the last day will round off the conference.

OCL - Oilseeds and fats, Crops and Lipids becomes a “PCI-friendly” journal

OCL - Oilseeds and fats, Crops and Lipids, a research journal published by EDP Sciences, has embraced transparent peer review and preprints by becoming a “PCI-friendly” journal, in partnership with Peer Community In (PCI). PCI is a non-profit, non-commercial platform that publishes recommendations of preprints after peer-review through specific communities of researchers. Nearly 100 journals are already on Peer Community In, including two EDP Sciences journals: Mathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena (the first PCI-friendly maths journal) and International Journal of Limnology.

‘Journées Chevreul’ 2023 at the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris

To celebrate the 80th birthday of SFEL -a scientific association promoting dissemination of knowledge in the field of lipids- and to thank all Chevreul Medalists who have contributed to the success of the ‘Journées Chevreul’, SFEL is pleased to announce the exceptional ‘Journées Chevreul’ which will be held on January 2023 in a famous place of science in Paris, the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle (MNHN). MNHN is one of the birthplaces of chemistry where Chevreul worked for more than 40 years and has isolated, characterized and named cholesterol.

These anniversary ‘Journées Chevreul’ will provide an overview of all the research themes on lipids supported by SFEL/AFECG since its creation and will be the occasion to award the Chevreul Medal 2023 to Michel Linder (LiBio, ENSAIA Nancy). They will take place on 3 consecutive days from January 18th to 20th. They will be boarded with an opening ceremony about Chevreul and SFEL followed by a series of lectures delivered by both Chevreul Medalists and invited speakers. Oral and poster communications will be also presented after selection. They will be organized in collaboration with Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle (MNHN) and our colleagues from three french scientific societies, the Groupe d’Etude et de Recherche en Lipidomique (GERLI), the Groupe Lipides Nutrition (GLN) and the Académie d'Agriculture de France (AAF), around the following 6 main themes (with scheduled speakers):

  • Opening Session on SFEL & Michel-Eugène CHEVREUL – Claude Leray (FRA), Christian Ferault (FRA), Bernard Bodo (FRA), Hervé Plessix (FRA)
  • Introduction Session on Omega3 in the Brain – Jean-Marie Bourre (FRA), Richard Bazinet (CAN)
  • Genomic/Varietal selection & Oilseed Sector – André Pouzet (FRA), Thierry André (FRA), Jean-Denis Faure (FRA)
  • Lipids, Nutrition and Human Health – Frédéric Carrière (FRA), Marie-Caroline Michalski (FRA), Cécile Gladine (FRA)
  • Lipids in the Ocean, Microorganisms – Peter Nichols (AUS), Marie Vagner (FRA), Michel Linder (FRA)
  • Lipids & Brain – Stephen Cunnane (CAN), Vincenzo Di Marzo (ITA), Fabien Pifferi (FRA)
  • Lipochemistry, Emulsion & New Technologies - Charlotte Jacobsen (DNK), Romain Valentin (FRA), Laurianne Simon (FRA)

The complete scientific program is available on line.
