Double bonds: A depiction of the comparison between potential for electron conductivity in conjugated double bonds compared to the methylene interrupted double bonds of DHA. The overlapping π-electrons clouds in the conjugated set (e.g. in retinal) overlap allowing the electrons to flow freely in response to a potential difference. The methylene groups separating the double bonds in DHA localise the electrons.
